Ivor Novello Award Winners 2009

British acts had a great 2008, as the five best selling albums globally were all British, according to official figures. Coldplay led the way with Viva La Vida, selling almost seven million copies around the world during 2008.

UK Charts: Top 10 Albums of 2008
DuffyDuffy has the Best Selling Album of 2008, according to the official chart listed below, her album 'Rockferry' went on to sell 1.685 million. The Welsh singer beat Take That who sold 1.446million copies in just four weeks since 'Circus' was released. Take That have the fastest million selling album ever in the UK.
Kings of Leon, Leona Lewis and Coldplay all went on to sell over a million copies of their albums as fans continued to snap up albums in the UK despite the credit crunch. Girls Aloud ended 2008 on a high as their new album 'Out of Control' gave them their first studio album #1.

Amy Winehouse: World's Best Selling Album

Amy Winehouse has the Best Selling Album in the world, so far this year. 'Back To Black' has sold 3.67m copies during the first six months of 2008. Total sales of the album has now reached almost 10m (9.78m) as Amy continues to dominate the tabloid newspapers with her private life.
Coldplay look set to steal her crown by the end of the year with 'Viva La Viva', the album went to #1 in the UK and US, selling 2.6m copies in just a few weeks.
Brits are dominating the world music scene this year and X Factor winner Leona Lewis has proved we can make it in America. Her debut album 'Spirit' has sold a staggering 2.4m copies and is currently enjoying chart success in America. The only American in the Top 5 is Jack Johnson in fourth with Welsh sensation Duffy beating Madonna at 5th place with her debut album 'Rockferry'.

Coldplay: Viva La Vida Tops Charts
Coldplay have gone straight to #1 with 'Viva La Vida' in the UK singles chart and the US singles chart, with the album also retaining it's #1 position in the UK.In Ireland the album entered the charts on Friday at #1 and the single climbed one place higher at #3, having spent seven weeks on the charts.

Coldplay: Viva La Vida Dominates UK/US Charts
Coldplay's Viva La Vida could make it to #1 in the US and UK this week. The single is currently topping the UK midweeks and over in America it has over taken Leona Lewis 'Bleeding Love' as Chris Martin and crew currently hold the #2 position on the Billboard Hot 100. The single has already been #1 in the Billboard Hot Digital Download.Coldplay's album 'Viva La Vida Or Death And All His Friends' shot straight to #1 in the UK on Sunday and is expected to top the US chart. Looks like the world still love Coldplay, even after all these years!

Coldplay Top UK Album Chart

Coldplay will enter the UK album chart at #1 on Sunday 15th June with their long anticipated album, 'Viva La Vida or Death And All His Friends'.
Released today (Thurs), the album has already out sold the rest of the Top 40 combined based on pre-sales at iTunes - which is a new record. Coldplay fans have waited since 2005's multi-selling 'X and Y' album.
