Alvis Car Production Set For Coventry Return

One of the famous car companies from the last century looks like it will be making a return to Coventry thanks to ex-employees who formed Red Triangle. They now own the Alvis brand and if plans go well, the company could bring back the iconic Coventry car.

First produced in Coventry in 1920, Alvis manufactured around 22,000 cars in the city until it was taken over by Rover in 1967 and the Holyhead plant eventually closed. Since then Red Triangle have been restoring and supplying genuine Alvis components, while increasing the number of skilled technicians employed at the company. Currently based in Kenilworth, the company now owns The Alvis Car Company Ltd name and enthusiasts can look forward too a new era for Alvis.

According to the Sunday Mirror, Henry Beckwith was picked up by police outside London nightclub Raffles although Geri Halliwell was not with him at the time of his arrest, he was apparently seen going outside with another woman.

The newspaper quotes a spokesman for Raffles saying, "He was seen going outside and around the corner, where he was searched by police." Henry admitted to being in possession of cocaine and was taken in handcuffs to a Chelsea police station.

Royal Mail Name Adam Crozier Replacement

Royal Mail have announced a suitable replacement for outgoing boss Adam Crozier, who is to leave his £1m job for an equally rewarding job at ITV. The Government have decided to replace Crozier with a plank of wood, as it is more likely to be of more use for the postal operator.

His replacement at Royal Mail was described as, "practical and useful" by a Government insider earlier today. Cost savings will help Royal Mail remain in profit, as the cost of varnish is far cheaper than Adam Crozier's salary. Archie Norman and Adam Crozier have been appointed to head up the destruction of ITV.

Susan Boyle Finds Intruder In Her Home

Police were called to the home of Susan Boyle just before 10pm last night after she arrived home from a visit to London to find an intruder inside. The multi-million selling singer was shocked and shaken as the man escaped past her when she arrived home. SuBo had been recording her part in the charity Haiti single in London and a friend had dropped her off at her council house in Scotland.

Although Susan Boyle has made millions due to her sudden success, the Britain's Got Talent star has tried to remain in her humble council home. The attempted burglary may now mean it is time for Susan to find a more suitable, protected home. Police took a 16 year-old youth into questioning in connection with the incident, but released him sometime later.

Primeval Gets Dramatic Comeback

Back from the dead, ITV's Primeval has been given a new lease of life as the network changed it's mind and agreed to a further two new series of the popular Sci - fi drama. Back in June we revealed that Primeval had been axed due to cost cutting at ITV, sparking fury with fans of the series.

Now a new partnership with UKTV (Watch) and ITV means millions of viewers will be able to see the return of Andrew Lee Potts, Jason Fleming and Hannah Spearritt in early 2011. ITV will show series four first and then Watch will screen series five before ITV.

Milla Jovovich weds Paul W.S. Anderson

Congratulations are in order to actress Milla Jovovich and sci-fi auteur Paul W.S. Anderson, who, People.com informs me, got hitched last night in a small sunset ceremony at their Beverly Hills home. The couple met when Anderson was directing Jovovich in 2002’s Resident Evil, which researchers believe may be the first time that a successful real-life romance has resulted from a movie based on a video game about zombies.

In addition to those warm congratulations, I should also offer a brief apology-slash-cautionary tale: When I first read this headline, I thought for a second that it said Jovovich had married There Will Be Blood’s Paul Thomas Anderson, and I was all, “How could he do Maya Rudolph like that?!” Needless to say, Paul W.S. Anderson and Paul Thomas Anderson are in fact two completely distinct people who happen to share an occupation and a near-identical name. They probably get that a lot. Sorry, dudes!

So, don’t make the same mistake I did. Know your Paul Andersons. And share your well-wishes for Jovovich and Paul W.S. Anderson in the comments below.

Jackson Portrait Sells For $1m

The Michael Jackson portrait by artist Andy Warhol has sold for $1 million (£606,428), according to reports.

The 1984 painting of Jackson wearing his 'Thriller' jacket, which Warhol was commissioned to render for a TIME magazine cover, was auctioned off in New York, and was expected to fetch millions when bidding opened at $800,000.

Although the portrait sold for $1m could have fetched a $10m (£6m) price tag, many may question why the Jackson portrait didn't sell for more since it is the work of Andy Warhol.

Mariah Carey delays album, 'Today' show appearance: What's going on here?

If you marked down any Mariah Carey-related events on your calendar for this month, you’d better hope you used erasable ink. Not only has the release of her upcoming album, Memoirs of an Imperfect Angel, been repeatedly pushed back — from Aug. 25 to Sept. 15, then again to Sept. 29 — but the diva recently postponed several promotional events, including planned appearances on NBC’s Today show, on VH1’s Storytellers, and at the Hollywood Walk of Fame. What gives?

“Mariah is working tirelessly on finishing up her album, doing promo for her film Precious and launching a new perfume with Elizabeth Arden,” a rep for Carey’s label told the Music Mix. “Release dates change all the time…It’s really nothing unusual.” The label rep also pointed to a post on the singer’s official site announcing that “we have shifted all of our TV and promo appearances to coincide with the new release date.” Fair enough, I suppose, though that strikes me as slightly circular reasoning. (The promo events were postponed because of the album release delay, which happened because…?) “It’s no big deal,” added another Carey publicist when contacted by the Music Mix, echoing comments made in a recent interview with People. “Everyone seems to think that it’s a big deal, but it’s not. She just wants to fine-tune some things [on the album].”

It’s certainly true that release dates often get changed without prior notice in the music industry. And maybe Carey’s label is just waiting for a single that’s bigger than the decent mid-level hit that “Obsessed” is shaping up to be so far. So what do you think? Why does Carey keep postponing things? And, if you’re a Mariah fan, are you content to keep waiting for Memoirs of an Imperfect Angel, or will you start to get impatient at some point?

V Alien Sci-Fi Returns To TV

'V' the Sci-fi sensation from the early 1980's has been remade for a new generation and will be back on TV in America on ABC, starting November 3. Hopefully one of the UK TV stations will pick up the new version of 'V'.

The new 'V' will focus on the first encounter with the seemingly friendly aliens, but in time the truth about the visitors is unmasked and their plan to steal the earths water exposed. The cast features Lost's Elizabeth Mitchell as FBI counter terrorism agent Erica Evans with Logan Huffman playing her son Tyler. He sees the the prospect of world unity thanks to the visitors, which will cause tensions with his mum.

Joining the line-up are Scott Wolf, Morena Baccarin, Joel Gretsch, Morris Chestnut, Lourdes Benedicto, and Laura Vandervoort. The show has been produced by Scott Peters, who worked on The 4400, Jeffrey Bell from Day Break and Alias, Steve Pearlman from Reunion and Jace Hall.

Fans of the original 'V' will need to give the new version time to prove itself as the original mini series back in 1983 was a ratings winner with 40% of viewers tuning in as the series unfolded and Diana was exposed. The programme came back with V: The Final Battle, a 1984 three-part miniseries; V: The Series, a 1984-1985 TV series; and V: The Second Generation, a 2008 novel by Kenneth Johnson.

Johnson, who directed and wrote the original series is not connected with the new ABC version of 'V' and he is hoping to make a new 'V' film.

Man From Swine Flu Ad Gets The Bug!

The man from the Swine Flu advert has caught the bug, David McCusker, 30, said: "I was supposed to 'Catch it, Bin it, Kill it'. But instead I've been shivering, shaking and spreading it."

David's "sneeze" sprays mock mucus around a lift on the TV advert warning people about Swine Flu. It shows how those following him in pick up germs. He then does the right thing by sneezing in a hanky, binning it and washing his hands.

David, from Sutton, Surrey, said: "It was a shock when I found out. I quarantined myself to sweat it out. I've been getting lots of stick from mates.
"I caught it, didn't bin it and spread it all over the place."
