Glastonbury 2008: Sunday Review

Barn Dancing - one of the many attractions @ Glastonbury

Sunday - Newton Faulkner / Jack Penate / Scouting For Girls / Neil Diamond / Goldfrapp

Glastonbury Pics: HERE

A lazy start to the day with a walk to the Jazz World stage for even more rest before trying to watch Newton Faulkner at the crowded Other Stage. His simple guitar playing and humble attitude was a pleasure to watch, even if I couldn't hear him very well because I was so far away. eventually I left the crowds and grabbed a view from the road behind and stayed there for Jack Penate and Scouting For Girls. It was a view from the bushes but it was crowd free and I liked that.
Scouting For Girls @ Glastonbury

Jack Penate was another down to earth musician that was lapping up the privilege of performing in front of thousands at Glastonbury. Crowds had shown up in their thousands once again as the sun shone through broken clouds from time to time. Scouting For Girls livened up the Glastonbury faithful with a string of hits and got everyone joining in their especially written Glastonbury song 'See You Next Year At Glastonbury'. Perfect timing to go and join my friends as we packed up our tent and headed one last time to the Pyramid Stage.

Neil Diamond was belting out the tunes and it looked like capacity crowds were watching as well as singing along to his classic tunes. I was even joining in during 'Forever in Blue Jeans' as I marvelled at the sight before me. The final act we saw at Glastonbury was Goldfrapp, who seemed a strange choice for the main stage but proved their worth as they captivated us in time with their hits.
Goldfrapp @ Glastonbury
Time to head home and reality, but it was a funny end as I got home at 02:15am to find myself locked out, having to get my sleeping bag out and spend the rest of the night on my doorstep. Now I've got the Glastonbury bug and can't wait for Glastonbury 2008 - no matter who headlines, the festival is more than any one artist.

Glastonbury 2008: Friday Review

Friday - The Gossip / Fun Lovin Criminals / The Enemy / Pete Doherty

Glastonbury Pics: HERE

It was my first Glastonbury Festival and what a first night it was - the rain had fallen so setting up a tent in a tight spot was even more fun! Once we'd set up tent the sound of The Feeling blasting out from the Pyramid Stage feeding our desire for music, so off we set for a night of wet musical delight.

First up was Beth Ditto and The Gossip who wooed the crowds and even joined the throng as she left the stage to continue singing and mingling. Wearing a black hoodie, the colder evening prevented Beth from stripping off this year but still we saw a great introduction to Glastonbury 2008.

robmacca out supporting The Enemy

Nipping over to Jazz World we saw Fun Lovin Criminals churn out their hits then I left my friends and made my way to the Other Stage for the one band I'd come to see - The Enemy. Normally I'm in a safe spot filming but tonight I'd wormed my way towards the front and plonked myself about three rows from the front of the stage. With my Union Jack around my waist and my 'I Love Cov' t-shirt on, I was ready to sing my little heart out. I wasn't the only one, everyone around me was up for a anthem sing-a-long set.

The Enemy @ Glastonbury

From the moment The Enemy came on until the time they left - Tom Clarke, Liam Watts and Andy Hopkins kept the pace lively, fresh and loud with everyone joining in. Pride over took me (maybe the alcohol helped!), and my 'I love Cov' t-shirt was soon waving in the air. Despite some guy moaning behind me, I kept waving my t-shirt from time to time - after all these lads made me proud of my city so why shouldn't I express my feelings?

Crowds embrace the beardy robmacca

Final act of the night was Pete Doherty, turning up rather dazed and thinking he was playing Saturday night, he apologised for being late. This didn't stop the massive crowd that had come to the Park to listen to the ex Libertine singer put on a worthy solo set. Even past midnight and the hardcore Glastonbury faithful were listening avidly as Pete Doherty proved why he is a force to be reckoned with.

Sadly, this Glastonbury virgin could stand no more and the alcohol bore it's effects and my tent was calling me...............

    robmacca "Foundations" Video (Kate Nash)

Miss Piggy (Muppet's) and robmacca star in "Foundations" by Kate Nash!

Kate Nash has been on my mind all week - well the "Foundations" tune has been swirling around my head. At first it prompted me to create this banner:

But with nothing on TV worth watching and a few hours spare I watched the Kate Nash "Foundations" video and thought I could do a one man show of my own. Not easy when you watch the Kate Nash video below, lots of camera moves and fancy special effects.

I had to film myself (and Miss Piggy!) and try and get it all timed as close as I could. Bit difficult when you can only really add the song at the end (and even then the download I'd just bought wouldn't work so I had to record it from the speaker - how very 1980's!)

It took 6 hours to record this 4 minute video (I had not seen the Kate Nash video until yesterday) - mine is not meant to be professional (yes, it means my version is CRAP !), my intention was just to have a bit of fun and experiment.

For best results, watch the original superior Kate Nash version first - so you can see where I got my ideas from, then watch the robmacca version (ignore the poor sound quality etc).......

    robmacca: Blog Visitors Increasing!

Eye Eye, seems like more and more people are visiting the robmacca blogs these days, as both "robmacca entertainment news" and "robmacca EXTRA" have now shot over the 20,000+ visitors and well over 33,000 page hits since its quiet humble begining back in 2005.
Considering the robmacca blogs are not about any one specific thing and I'm not anyone special, it's an honour to have so many people come over and have a read or look at whatever is grabbing my attention at the time. So thanks to everyone who has ever visited the robmacca blogs so far and a big shout out if you've left a comment - I do read them all personally!

    Blah Blah Blah

Over on robmaccaEXTRA this month I'm doing a "31 robmacca pictures" which will be going back through the years looking at the various hairstyles and awful childhood teeth. It's worth a look just to see I get worse or better as the pictures go back in time........

I'm not Patch Ripps personal stalker (honestly, the restraining order still hasn't come through and I don't sniff his underwear!) - here is Patch's mobile phone picture taken on Thursday night as he tried on my glasses. Must admit - they suit him better than they do me! Looking very dappa Mr Lagunas............

Congratulations to Coventry's The Enemy for getting another chart hit this week (#4) with "Had Enough". They worked damn hard last week doing signings up and down the country as seen last week on "robmacca's entertainment news" but I'm rather annoyed and feel ripped off once again. I'd ordered three copies of the signed limited 7" vinyl (only 500 available) - but instead I got just 3 ordinary 7" singles arrive in the post today. I'm sending them back to HMV as i can buy them for 99p from Virgin if i really want them.

At the last single "Away From Here" they said their was 1,000 copies limited edition Stiff Records release - I ordered 10 and it turned out to be not so limited and not numbered so I was annoyed to say the least. OK rant over, well done lads, now stop blagging to us with bogus limited editions cos it p**ses me right off!

Finally, as the Spice Girls reunion became the talk of the world and over 1 million registered for concert tickets on the first day alone, the single "Stop" is available for download. It's all part of a fan campaign called "Stop To The Top". It was the only single not to get to #1 for the Spice Girls and already it has generated a lot of interest with the single entering the Top 100 on iTunes today. Watch this space for more updates............

    robmacca Spice Girls Radio Interviews

Yesterday was one of those crazy days as the Spice Girls finally announced their comeback for one last tour to say "Goodbye" to the fans and reunite as a five piece group. I'd been contacted the day before by the BBC who wanted to do an interview for BBC Coventry and Warwickshire.

I was interviewed by Liz Kershaw on the Breakfast Show and it's available to download HERE. I recorded it from my laptop to mobile so it's not that loud! Then as the Spice Girls were doing the press conference, I had another call from the BBC and they wanted to interview me on another show for the station, this time it was Jane Vickers Drive Time Show. It was a fun interview and also available to download HERE (I liked this one more!).

The funniest part of the day was having to turn down the BBC World Service for an interview on their "Have Your Say" programme because it clashed with the other BBC interview. For one day only I felt like a Z list celeb, which is about as high as robmacca needs to get in this world!

    Those lovely Spice Girls yesterday!

    A Ripptastic Story

Once upon a time there was a guy called robmacca

robmacca discovered a Coventry band, The Ripps who had some great music.

So robmacca ordered some t-shirts from the band

Then one day Patch Ripp and James delivered them to robmacca's house

Then they surprised him by giving him lots of stickers and some "Holiday" postcards

As a way of thanking him, they gave him a CD with lots of bonus album tracks on

robmacca wanted to cry when he saw all the kindness shown by The Ripps

Never had an artist or "celebrity" done so much for someone so little like robmacca

They even signed the postcards as an added surprise

Finally robmacca had his very own "I ♥ Cov " t-shirts to wear

robmacca went to bed one happy Ripps fan

The Enemy Session - How It All Went Wrong

Here's the quick story about what happened the day I was meant to go to London and watch one of my favourite groups, The Enemy, perform at an exclusive secret AOL session (as reported on Wednesday's Blog).........................

I rushed home after work, put on my "I ♥ Cov " t-shirt and packed my little bag with The Enemy merchandise.

Catriona, minus the back combed hair, drove us down towards London...........

Big pile up on M40 meant stuck for 7 hours and missing The Enemy.

Now watch the video to see my reactions to the day:

    "robmacca" In Local Newspaper

    robmacca in the Coventry Telegraph.

robmacca was in the local newspaper today as the Coventry Telegraph reported on The Enemy's HMV performance. As circled in the picture above you can see just how close I was to the front. I'd been about 10 in the queue before the signing , but once inside there were already "HMV guests" - which included Tom's young brother Andy (as seen at the front of the picture talking to his friend Dom who is playing with his mobile phone). If there hadn't been any HMV guests then I'd have been right at the front, but I'm still happy where I ended up standing.

*UPDATE: Here is a picture posted in another local newspaper, see if you can spot robmacca in this one............

The Enemy - HMV Coventry (Pre-signing)

Today The Enemy perform and sign copies of their new single "Away From Here" in their home town of Coventry and robmacca wants to be one of the lucky one's watching them perform, but will he get a wristband in time?

Watch this short video blog to find out what happened before the signing:

    robmacca: Coventry News Video #1

robmacca is one step nearer insanity as a news reader...........

The video below is of 10 short Coventry news stories from the week, presented by robmacca. It turned out to be really hard work and meant that I got no sleep. I thought it would be easy to just "present" news stories but in reality it's blooming hard work - I now admire real news readers more, because they articulate almost perfectly!

Anyway, watch the video for a laugh and learn what is going on in my lovely city:

robmacca - Online Video Blog 15/04/2007

Here is something new - an online video blog. I'm just experimenting to see if I like doing it or if I actually get the time. I was going to try and make it fancy with lots of picture inserts and music - but I'm crap with editing so in the end I just did a weekly summary.

Check out my online video blog below:
