Naomi Campbell lobbying for more black models
Supermodel Naomi Campbell has urged the fashion industry to use more black models on the catwalk.
She was reduced to tears when she collected the Special Recognition Award at the British Fashion Awards in London, in honour of her 25-year modelling career.
"We''re all aware that we need to introduce more women (of colour). But what I''ve seen recently is that I''ve seen it go backwards slightly. We need to raise awareness again and need to start using women of colour more," the Daily Star quoted her as telling London''s Evening Standard.
"When I look at the shows this season, there weren''t as many as a year-and-a-half ago. We''ve got to keep speaking out, so as boring as it may be, if you hear me saying it over and over again I have to stand up for my fellow comrades (sic).
"It''s not for myself, but the younger girls who come up to me and say, ''We didn''t get used this season, we didn''t do this, someone used 81 models and didn''t use one of us''. In that respect if they come up and talk to me, and I''m able to speak on their behalf, then I will," she said.

Nelson Mandela inspires Naomi Campbell
Super model Naomi Campbell has revealed that she looks up to former South African president Nelson Mandela for inspiration when times get tough for her.
The British beauty has formed a close bond with Mandela since their meeting in early 1990s and he fondly refers to her as his "honorary granddaughter".
She says his fight for freedom during South Africa's apartheid gives her the strength to overcome her troubles, reports femalefirst.co.uk.
"I have to pinch myself sometimes because who in the world doesn't want to know Nelson Mandela? But I've been extremely blessed to have been in his presence many times...He's someone who I often think about when things get tough and life isn't full of roses. Nothing can be as hard as what he went through," she said.
"Now, I don't have his constitution for forgiving. I hope one day to acquire that. But I don't hold grudges either. When things happen, I just kind of want to move away from them for a while and hope that things will come back in a more positive light," she said.

Naomi Campbell Poses for a Gory Photo Shoot
The 40 year old super-model, Naomi Campbell, posed for a gory, yet kinky photo shoot for Interview magazine, wearing black leather with a naked, lifeless and blood-stained model.
And it looked like she had walked on to the set of a Saw film, the tiled walls and blood-stained floors reminiscent of the first instalment of the horror franchise.
Naomi posed for the photo shoot for Interview and a chat with New York art gallery owner Tony Shafrazi for the U.S. publication and spoke to him about her illustrious career on the catwalk.
Naomi was discovered while out shopping in London at the age of 15 and appeared on the cover of Elle the following year.
Soon she was gracing catwalks all over the road, while becoming part of the group of girls - Linda Evangelista, Christy Turlington, Cindy Crawford, Claudia Schiffer, and Helena Christensen - who would become the world's first 'supermodels'.

However, her lawyers asked for a delay which was approved by the court, and Campbell will now not appear until August 5, reports The AFP.
"The judges of SCSL trial chamber II have this morning approved Ms Naomi Campbell's request to postpone her scheduled testimony in the trial of Charles Taylor to Thursday, August 5, 2010, at 9am (7am)," said a court statement.

I like strong men

The 39-year-old supermodel, who has previously been in relationships with Robert De Niro and Usher, says that she prefers partners who "wear the pants".
Speaking on Oprah Winfrey, she said: "I like men that are strong. I like the men to wear the pants. I like strong men that know what they want, know what they are doing, that tell me what to do."
However, the star quashed speculation that she only dates rich men, insisting: "Have I ever dated someone who wasn't well off? Yeah, a working class man, a man in the arts. I have dated someone poor."
Campbell, who is currently dating billionaire Vladimir Doronin, recently denied claims that the pair were preparing to wed.

Naomi Campbell assaulted by a Brit

"Naomi and her people were talking to DJ Mike Noveau when some crazy British girl came over, shoved Mike out of the way and started screaming at her. She yelled, 'How could you do that, you ****!' She was quickly dragged away. Naomi started walking in the opposite direction but couldn't take the verbal assault, and yelled back at her," a source told the publication.
According to PageSix, Campbell's representative Alan Edwards confirmed the woman has allegedly been trailing Campbell for some time.
Edwards also said that the model hasn't been taking any risks during her US trip - she hired a bodyguard to accompany her at all times because she is still terrified following the 1997 shooting of designer Gianni Versace who was killed outside his Miami mansion.
"She usually doesn't travel with a bodyguard. But the police here actually recommended to her that she use one. She didn't want to take any chances, especially after what happened to Gianni Versace," he said.

::: Naked in fur :::

The 39-year-old catwalk queen has reportedly posed in a coat made from Russian sable in an advert for a luxury New York furrier Dennis Basso, reports the Daily Express.
She had once famously declared she would rather go naked than wear fur, however, Campbell backtracked when PETA targeted designers.
"I felt that they went too far and I thought, I didn't want to be a part of this campaign any more," she said at the time.
Campbell has been branded a hypocrite by Sir Paul McCartney's ex-wife Heather Mills, 41. But Basso said: "Women who want something beautiful are only interested in the final product."

People Don't Appreciate Black Beauty: Naomi
Naomi Campbell has slammed magazines like Vogue for sidelining black models by giving preference to fair-skinned women. The stroppy supermodel said that ‘it is a pity that people don’t appreciate black beauty’. The 37-year-old admitted that she herself finds it difficult to get a chance to appear in the cover page of the London issue of Vogue magazine. “Black models are being sidelined by the major modeling agencies. It is a pity that people don’t appreciate black beauty,” Times Online quoted Campbell, as saying. “Even myself, I get a raw deal from my own country in England. For example, I hardly come on the front pages of the London Vogue magazine. Only white models, some of whom are not as prominent as I am, are put on splash pages. I don’t want to quit modeling until I find that black models get equal prominence and recognition by the world media and information instruments.” “I believe there are pretty girls from your lovely country who can grace the international catwalk and the front pages of fashion magazines with proper strategies.” Campbell is now planning to start her own modeling agency in Kenya to look for African faces. However, she agreed that it would take time to being the change in the industry. “You can look through all the big magazines and see hundreds of models and not see a single black one. So anything which increases the pool of African talent is a good thing, but it will be a while before we see a big change in the industry,” she said. | |||

Naomi Campbell not allowed to donate blood

Brit supermodel Naomi Campbell wanted to do her bit when she offered her blood at the HemoRio medical centre in Brazil only to have officials turn her away.
Campbell, who had flown Apr 14 night to Brazil, had turned up at the centre to participate in a blood drive to fight a dengue fever epidemic, but officials turned her away due to medical reasons.
"I have to help Brazil and will donate blood," New York Daily News quoted her as saying in Sao Paulo. However, the 37-year-old's wishes were not fulfilled, as due to the surgery she had in February to remove a cyst, she was not permitted to donate blood.
Not letting her inability to donate blood stop her fight for the cause, she will be appearing at a blood centre to raise awareness of the epidemic, which has so far infected 55,000 people, and killed 67. It is obvious that the supermodel loves Brazil, as she often visits the country.
She has been given an invitation by Rio Mayor Cesar Maia to be a goodwill ambassador for the city.
