The Specials To Reform

The Specials are to reform officially for some gigs at the end of the year, according to former front man Terry Hall, speaking to the BBC. It was almost 30 years ago the Coventry band made SKA music big in the UK with hits like "A Message To You Rudy" and "Ghost Town". Even though the Specials have transformed over the years, it would be the first time they have reformed with Terry Hall. Many reunion stories have circulated over the years, now the reality has been confirmed by Terry Hall, who said:

"Well we're still trying to put dates together, but hopefully
September/ October time. We need to spend the Summer rehearsing... I think
it's taken me 30 years to realise we could do it really well."

Terry Hall and Lynval Golding made surprise appearances at last year's Glastonbury Festival. The pair appeared onstage with Lily Allen to perform "Gangsters", and later on a different stage, with Damon Albarn on piano and a beat boxer, performing "A Message To You, Rudy". Neville Staple had appeared onstage in Coventry a few months prior, with the up and coming Coventarian band, The Enemy.

*EMI have released a CD/DVD featuring most of the Specials tracks today, entitled "Best of the Specials" and is available for just £8.99 from HMV online.

Tom Clarke: "I've Never Done Drugs"

Tom Clarke is often featured in the media as the out spoken front man of Coventry band The Enemy, but for those who take the time to listen, Tom speaks many a wise word.

Although Tom has only just recently turned 20 years old, he has already experienced more than many of his peers. Yet all this time Tom Clarke has kept his feet firmly on the ground and his head still rests on very wise shoulders.

The past year The Enemy have gone from playing small venues and moved on to a sell out national tour at much larger venues (such as the 8,000 capacity Jaguar Hall in Coventry). You might conclude this path of fame would naturally lead to a rock 'n' roll lifestyle full of sex and drugs, but once again Tom Clarke has a very sensible attitude.

Speaking about the subject of drugs, Tom said:

"I've never wanted to know, I've seen drugs destroy a lot of people,
I've seen it ruin personalities that I like. The person is still the same, but
it's like somethings gone inside and hollowed then out and taken the
personality out of them."

"I know in 2008 I'm probably a minority in not having ever experimented
in drugs, but anyone who says you can't say no because it's everywhere, that's
bollocks. You can say no, it's piss easy. I now exist in a world where it's
around me every fucking day and I still have no desire to start doing any drugs
at all."

Tom Clarke is often reported for speaking his mind, yet he stands as a good role model for today's generation surrounded by a culture of violence and drugs. Tom has proved you can find success without the need for drugs - it does require hard work and a strong belief in yourself to prove others wrong. The Enemy have made it because of these attributes and the determination not to be stuck in a dead end 9-5 job selling TV's.

Skins Cast Axed

The whole cast from "Skins" have been axed and will not be appearing in series three - according to comments made by executive producer, Bryan Elsey.

"There are risks associated with dumping a cast, but we just did it. There was some disquiet at the channel, but then they told us just to go with it."

He also confirmed the show would stick to its pattern of introducing college-age characters, moving them on in the next series, then letting them go."The first year is about getting to know the kids, and the second gives us the advantage of being able to explore their psyches a little more," said Elsey.

The show will also continue to use a team of up to 20 writers, including newcomers but characters Tony, Maxxie, Anwar, Sid, Cassy, Michelle, Jal and Chris will all need to find new jobs now that series two is almost finished.

The question remains - will "Skins" survive without the original cast or will it suffer the same fate as Channel Five's "Family Affairs", which was eventually axed after changing it's cast. Another cast change disaster came in the form of "Crossroads", which changed most of the cast after a re-vamp in 2003. The soap opera slumped in the tea time viewing figures and was axed after just 98 episodes.

The Apprentice Gets Top Marks

The Apprentice started it's fourth series on the BBC this week and scored top marks with a ratings record opener of 6.4 million viewers (1 in 4 of the total TV viewers were watching!). Sir Alan Sugar showed no mercy in firing the first Apprentice hopeful.

Normally it is the women who turn on each other, but in a utterly cringe worthy display of back stabbing - the male team fell at the first hurdle. Blaming each other for failing the fish task, one of them ultimately would hear those famous words "You're fired!"

Looks like we are in for some exciting developments in the coming weeks.

    MySpace "Days Numbered"?

Are the days numbered for social networking website MySpace as two media stories paint the internet giant in a bad light.

Firstly, it seems music fans are choosing Wikipedia more and more to find out information about their favourite bands. Yahoo collected the data, in which fans picked Wikipedia twice as much as Myspace.

Secondly, outspoken musician Billy Bragg has told the New York Times, that social networks "are as much to blame for the malaise currently affecting the industry as the music lover who downloads songs for free". How long will it be before users are charged for listening to music on the website?
