LIAM WATTS, drummer with Coventry band The Enemy, has described reaching number one in the album charts as one of the highlights of his life.

The album "We'll Live and Die in These Towns" hit the top of the charts the day after the band played an incendiary set at Coventry's Godiva Festival.

Speaking backstage at the festival Liam said: "Playing here and going to number one in the same weekend - it's the pinnacle of everything for us."

Along with his bandmates, singer Tom Clarke and bass player Andy Hopkins, Liam celebrated the news of hitting number one while sitting on a bus on the way to Scotland for a gig.
And then yesterday morning (Monday) the boys flew out to Germany for another show.

But proud parents Martin and Karen celebrated their son's achievement at home with nothing more than a cup of tea as the chart was announced on Sunday.

Martin, a salesman from Holbrooks and former drummer with Coventry band Channel Firing, said: "It's not very rock and roll is it?
"We did have a bottle of champagne but we were so done in after the weekend we couldn't be bothered to open it!"

When he bought a 15-year-old Liam his first set of drums, he could only dream it would be the first step on a ladder that would lead to number one chart success.

Martin, aged 44, said: "To be honest, I always thought there was a chance this might happen, but now it has it's just like a dream.
"I really don't think I could feel any better right now. Liam is just so excited - it's all happened so quickly for them.
"I'm absolutely over the moon. All of the parents are.
"We're just so very, very proud."

Meanwhile, singer and guitarist Tom Clarke said he planned to celebrate by ending his feud with Bob Geldof's daughter Peaches.
The pair had a much publicised row at Glastonbury.

Tom said: "I'm thinking about taking her out for a fair few pints down my local in Coventry.
"We'll see what she's made of.
"In the meantime, I'm going to get drunk tonight before catching a plane to Germany. I just hope they let me on the plane."
