Carol Vorderman filmed her very last Countdown show for Channel 4 today, in what has been described as "emotional" by The Press Association. The final Countdown programme featuring Carol Vorderman and Des O'Connor will be aired on Friday 12th December on Channel 4 and will be followed by a special tribute programme presented by Gyles Brandreth.
It was all smiles and tears as Carol attended the Yorkshire Television Studios for the final time after spending just over 26 years working on Countdown. Carol was the first woman to appear on Channel 4 when it was launched on Tuesday 2nd November 1982. As reported here, Carol was forced to quit earlier this year when TV chiefs demanded she took a 90% pay cut.
Carol Vorderman told reporters, "It is more like a party atmosphere in there." She also appeared with her 16 year old daughter, Katie who said, "'I was here as a baby and I have a photo of me here, and now I'm here for the last show". In the audience were her 11 year old son Cameron, mother and celebrities for the farewell show which Carol described as "a very special send-off." Talking about her departure from Countdown, Carol concluded, "I can't believe it has come to an end".
