9. Alex and Rob in Kenilworth

It was Alex's last day here so we took a little drive over to Kenilworth, I think it's the first time I've been but it was worth seeing. A tiny town just outside Coventry but has a lovely castle and a countryside walk through the farmers fields. We stopped when we got into a field with rams and horses inside because it looked like they might charge towards us. No photos as I didn't want to risk getting them angry!

MG Rover SOLD

Mixed news for the MG Rover sell off, part of me is glad the brand will live on but part of me is sad our last mass car company has gone into foreign hands. UK Plc has truly gone down the pan as we become the supermarket of the world and just sell other countries products instead of making them ourselves. Skilled labour is becoming a thing of the past and we are paying the price for not supporting our own manufacturers by not buying British. Greed is one of the 7 deadly sins that has come back to bite us on the bum big time!

MG Rover

http://www3.mg-rover.com/mg_GB_en/static/index.html

I dedicate today's Blog post to MG Rover, the last main car manufacture in Great Britain. Recently they went into administration (bust, broke, down the pan, up the shitter to you and me!) but I have a soft spot since I bought my brand new Rover25 (large picture above) almost 3 years ago.

I come from Coventry which was at the heart of the car industry in the 1970's but has declined more and more as we bought cheaper foreign cars.

But it is a crime against the country that Rover has been allowed to go the way it has and very naughty that Chinese firm, Shanghai Automotive Industry Corporation (SAIC) let the company go into administration before putting in a bid at a fraction of the price, while many thousands lost their jobs.

The only real hope that MG Rover can stay British is for the administrators to accept the bid by a consortium led by businessman David James. At least the MG brand would remain in British hands so SAIC can shove their bid where the sun does not shine!

Simons Meal & Chinese Kareoke

1,4 and 5 - Alex does Kareoke with the ladies (Alcohol? What alcohol??!!)
2 - Torb's and Cheryl at the end of the night
3 - Simon gets a cake from the restaurant
6 & 7 - The lovely Trisha and Scott
8 - Stuart stays sober as "the driver"
9 - Cheryl loves wine! (Alex loves it even more!!)
10 - Simon Torb's and Cheryl

Fantastic night out for Simons Birthday (I don't do birthdays etc but I do do friends and being with the people you like is the main thing). The meal was excellent and one which I'd do again - loved the prawns and the duck was simply yummy. Weird how most of our table were ex- vegetarians, apart from Alex who still doesn't eat meat (No comments .......... But I'm sure I've seen him eat something that could be meat *winks*)
The company was what made the evening very special, a great bunch of people who all know Simon (obviously!), I didn't know some of them very well before this evening but by the end of the night I knew them all better. Wine made a big impression on Alex as he shared his vocals at the end of the night, he was a hit with the ladies and even got a phone number off one of the other Kareoke singer's. Bless!
The stagger home was loud and fun , sorry to all the people who may have been sleeping!

In a Party Mood.........

Friday is my day off for this week, so how could I not get into the party mood! Alex and I scrubbed up and took this picture just before leaving for a night on the town. We had a good night out - even if it had been a baking hot day again, thankfully the pub/club had an outdoor drinking area so we spent most of our time there.

Beautiful Japanese Tattoos for Girls

From beautiful, exotic flowers to fierce Japanese dragon tattoos, or even large intricately designed samurai warriors, Japanese tattoo symbols and designs work for everyone and anyone. A Japanese koi fish tattoo swimming lazily across a woman's hip, a tiny ring of beautiful cherry blossoms fused together as an armband or at the ankle, a fierce looking emerald serpent slithering up someone's calf,

Sunday in Royal Leamington Spa

Sunday we spent part of the day going for a walk in Royal Leamington Spa, a town near Coventry. After looking in a few shops we took some pictures outside the very floral Town Hall (as picture 4,6 and 8) we did the Riverside Walk (picture 5). The walk took us along the canal with cows and sheep in nearby fields (picture 1 and 3) and on the canal a duck could be seen caring for her young. (picture 7).
It was a really good walk and one I had never taken before. Leamington is a beautiful town with lots of white Victorian buildings that remind me of London - but on a quieter scale.

The council had made a great effort to make the flowers around the town centre look very appealing, and it had worked well. The Riverside Walk went from Leamington to Warwick but we didn't have time to walk all the way so will have to save it for another time.

Living in the heart of England has many great sites worth visiting, which can so often be missed if you are stuck in the city. I love the British summer and the beautiful country I live in.

More Carnival pictures........

* Final 3 pictures taken with my mobile at the Godiva Festival as the Carnival arrived. The Carnival was telling the unique story of Coventry from medieval times up to the present day through a Caribbean influenced theatrical procession on foot with moving platforms, backpacks, costumes, music and performance.
Around 1000 people took part many had designed their costumes through projects with Creative Partnerships. Over forty artists in the city had worked intensively creating spectacular costumes and performances. International artists from Macnas and Teatr Biuro Podrozy joined in the fun.

Saturday: Godiva Carnival
